Paramore's Spin on Talking Heads' "Burning Down The House" is a Vibrant Homage to a Timeless Classic

Updated: Mar 1

A24 Music announced the compilation Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, which comes in celebration of the recent re-release of Jonathan Demme’s iconic concert film of the same name and the 40th anniversary of its accompanying soundtrack album. Who better to kick off the launch than Paramore!

It has been a hectic last few weeks for Paramore. From a few historic GRAMMY wins, to completing their obligations with with Atlantic Records, and of course this recent single on a tribute album loaded with talent.

Paramore's take on "Burning Down the House" for the Talking Heads tribute album, is a vibrant take true to the timeless legacy of both bands. Right from the get go, the track captures the essence of the original while giving it a fresh spin. Greeted by the original introduction of the track, Hayley Williams' vocals soar in with power and authenticity, displaying her unique style while staying par to the legendary original. Backed by tight instrumentation from Taylor York, Brian Robert Jones, Joey Howard, and Zac Farro, the cover keeps its energy with beautiful synth, roaring drums and a funky riff. The instrumentation resonating with the original Talking Heads composition (as it should be). Led by Carlos de la Garza, the production strikes a perfect balance between the classic 80s sound and a more modern innovation, resulting in a rendition that feels both new and faithful. Every element, from the pulsating basslines to the infectious drumbeats, adds to the song's groove and undeniable charm. Of course everything leads up to the catchy one liner, which always has listeners shouting "BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE!"

The rendition is a must listen for fans of both bands and anyone who appreciates great music.
