Last week, the world of horror got some exciting news: The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula is back with another season, yet again bringing the drag, filth, horror and glamour to our lives. Season 4 of the competition show tasked at finding the worlds next drag supermonster, will air October 19th on Shudder.
Dragula has attracted a cult following of drag and horror lovers around the world. Mainly known for its dangerous “extermination” challenges where contestants have been seen jumping out of planes, being pierced with needles and eating live spiders.
Now that it is September and Fall is on the horizon, spooky season has begun, and what better way to start it off than with some ghoulish drag? Let’s take a look at my top picks for the crown.
Saint
Like her namesake, Saint is drop dead gorgeous. As the winner of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Resurrection last Halloween, she was invited back to the competition for another season. Saint’s creativity is otherworldly, as shown through her run on season 3 and I can't wait to see what she brings this season. With dark glamorous fashion, Saint is sure to stand out.
Formelda Hyde
Next up, probably my favourite promo look of all the contestants- Formelda Hyde. Heavily inspired by horror staples like Hellraiser and Silent Hill, Formelda brings an edge to the competition with handmade masks and razor-sharp wit. Their name is a pun on the chemical formaldehyde which is used to preserve bodies. Hopefully like the compound, Formelda can preserve their spot in the top of the competition.
Sigourney Beaver
As the first cis woman drag queen contestant on the show, Sigourney is a trailblazer for many talented ghouls to follow in her footsteps. With this promo look alone she deserves to win- this wig was fit for a crown, with a gown to match. Like her Alien counterpart, Sigourney’s beauty is out of this world.
Conclusion
Based on first impressions, these are my top picks for the crown. But once the competition starts there is no telling who will rise above and become the next drag supermonster. Tune in this October to find out!
