Do you have a hard time falling asleep at night despite your reliance on modern medicine and sleep aids? Do you find yourself at your wits end once the sun goes down, troubled by visions of a shadowy figure taunting you out of the corner of your eye? If you or a loved one has been plagued haunted by Benadryl-induced hallucinations of a sharp dressed man appearing by their bedside, you may be entitled to sonic compensation (oh, did you think there was a check at the end of this? Sorry to disappoint, hope you don't lose any sleep over it).

Insomnia, anxiety, sleeping pills, paranoia; these are all things you can expect to hear about in the NYC-based shoegaze conglomerate, Shower Curtain's brand new single, "benadryl man." Careening into headphones everywhere barely a month behind their previous release, "wish u well," their latest track is just another hair-raising sample of the record to come. Produced by Ethan Williams of Punchlove in collaboration with Zach Mezzo of Catcher and Wil Ren of Wince, who provided the electric violin and cello present in the song, worked closely alongside Shower Curtain's Victoria Winter to design the perfect eery atmosphere for your next smoggy graveyard party.

At face value, "benadryl man" is a spooky shoegaze retelling of a now years old meme, reimagining the Benadryl induced hallucinated figure, The Hat Man, as a living feature that looms over Winter's bed as she sleeps, sitting on the edge of her velvet purple couch, watching her as she sleeps. Deeper beneath, past the initial scare and brief anxiety the song imbues, the "bendryl man" serves as a distressing personification of Winter's own mental and physical state, preventing her from sleeping well at night or from relaxing during the day; The Benadryl Man looms over her, obstructing her ability to find mental and emotional peace or even feel safe in spaces that should feel familiar.

"bendryl man" is available on all streaming platforms. Shower Curtain's debut album, words from a wishing well, is available for pre-order now, and available on streaming October 18, 2024, vie Angel Tapes ands Fire Talk Records.
